 About the role

The Director of Recreation, Parks & Tourism is responsible for providing direction and operational management of the parks and recreation system as well as the promotion of tourism, events and visitor information services. This work includes planning and organizing workflow, initiating and implementing operating procedures and policies, personnel and budget management & project planning.

Is this you?

Minimum qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Management or related field, and
    • A minimum of 7 – 10 years relevant community development and recreation experience; OR
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Strong human resource management and leadership skills
  • Sound judgment and decision-making skills
  • Ability to develop, plan and implement short- and long-range plans
  • Strong commitment to community development principles and inclusion
  • Experience with budgeting, cost estimating and fiscal management principles and procedures.
  • Knowledgeable of occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Skills in grant writing and project administration

Salary: $92,524 - $ 115,654, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Planner 2 (Full-time, Permanent)

The Planner is responsible for the development of local planning documents, which are used to guide and regulate new development activities in identified Plan Areas of the Municipality. The Planner II is responsible in communicating with members of the public, and with Council, in identifying how land use policy will affect development decisions, as it may pertain to specific properties, as well as impact on the overall direction of growth and development in identified communities.

Is this you?

Minimum qualifications include:
• a bachelor’s degree in a Planning-related field, Master of Planning preferable; and
• 2-3 years experience working in the Planning field; OR
• An equivalent combination of education and experience in public policy administration.
• Knowledge of the Nova Scotia Municipal Government Act and related legislation and provincial policies.
• Strong speaking and presentation skills
• Eligible for full membership with the Canadian Institute of Planners and eligible to be a Licensed Professional Planner in Nova Scotia.

About the role….
The Senior Planner is responsible for the development of local planning documents, which are used to guide and regulate new development activities in identified Plan Areas of the Municipality. The Senior Planner is responsible in communicating with members of the public, and with Council, in identifying how land use policy will affect development decisions, as it may pertain to specific properties, as well as impact on the overall direction of growth and development in identified communities. The Senior Planner is a supervisory role with responsibilities for Planner I and student positions.
