Households across the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg will begin receiving invitation postcards starting on February 23, 2026 for the Nova Scotia Quality of Life Survey, a province‑wide effort to better understand how people are doing — not just economically, but socially and in everyday life.

This survey only happens every few years, and the information it collects provides a clear and meaningful picture of community wellbeing. It helps municipal governments, including the District of Lunenburg, understand residents’ lived experiences and plan services, programs, and long‑term priorities with better data.

“Your voice matters,” says Mayor Elspeth McLean-Wile. “Completing the survey will provide Council with important information that will help in our decision-making.”

About the Survey

The Nova Scotia Quality of Life Survey asks about 200 questions across a range of topics including health, affordability, trust in institutions, job satisfaction, connection to nature and much more. The survey is designed to gather information on the eight domains of life that Canadians have identified as critical to our overall wellbeing. These are: community vitality, democratic engagement, education, the environment, healthy populations, leisure and culture, living standards, and time use.

Because quality of life is a complex topic, the survey may take between 30 and 60 minutes to complete. The survey is completely voluntary and anonymous, and your answers cannot be traced back to you.

Survey Administration

Engage Nova Scotia in collaboration with the Canadian Index of Wellbeing (CIW) is administering the survey, with the support of the Province of Nova Scotia, Government of Canada, municipalities across Nova Scotia and other non-governmental partners. The last Nova Scotia Quality of Life Survey was done in 2019.

Participants

One person from each household is asked to complete the survey. Of your household members, the person whose birthday is closest to June who is 16 years of age or older is asked to participate.

How to Take the Survey

Beginning February 23, households will receive postcards in the mail with instructions to take the survey online. The Engage Nova Scotia outreach team and partner organizations will also be hosting events to support survey completion across the province, which you can find out about on their socials: FacebookInstagramLinkedIn, and website.

How this Survey Helps Our Communities

The survey touches on most of the issues impacting people in the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg (health, affordability, public safety, access to recreation, experiences of loneliness and discrimination, belonging to community, trust in institutions, and more). If enough residents participate, it will provide invaluable data and insights into life in our county and help municipal Council and staff plan to address areas of concern in the years to come.
