Sawpit Wharf Park is a waterfront area that allows water access to Lunenburg's Back Harbour and the Atlantic Ocean.
The park offers a boat launch and a floating wharf to access the water, but there’s so much more! Picnic tables, a wharf that you can walk on, parking areas, a privy (seasonal) and plenty of green space right on the water, an excellent spot to enjoy the beautiful islands off our wonderful coastline. Please remember that this is a pets on leash park! There is no winter maintenance at the location.
The upper parking lot provides access for vehicles and boat trailers who wish to stay up to 72 hours, or longer with permission from the Municipality. Vehicles (no trailers) can also be parked in the lower parking lot, but for day use only.
SUMMER 2026 UPDATE
Phase 1 of a major improvement project is expected to get underway later this spring. That means floating dock space for punts won’t be available during the 2026 boating season, affecting about 30 local boaters. The park and boat launch will remain open as much as possible, but visitors should expect some temporary interruptions throughout the season.
We know this may be inconvenient, but there’s good news. These upgrades will bring:
• A brand-new timber wharf
• A new floating dock system
• An accessible canoe and kayak launch
• Improvements to the boat launch
These changes will help make future boating seasons even better at Sawpit Wharf Park.
